My First 5K :)

I decided for my first 5K I would pick one that I could walk and that there was no time limit on so my goal could just be to finish :) I picked one a little North of Indy in the middle of nowhere. It was called the Llama Walk and was a fundraiser for the local Elementary School. My friend Lindsay came along for the walk and I am not sure I could have finished without her cheering me on by my side.

I've been walking a lot at the gym. A few times a week, but have only walked outside once since I started. It's a lot different. Plus the weather decided to get cold and the wind picked up. We were icicles by the end!

Long story short...I finished my 3.2 miles/5 Kilometers :)

A

I got my grade back for Environmental Literature and I got an A in there :) At the end of mid-terms I had an A in all my classes and hopefully that continues. Lowest grade so far has been an 88% B+, so I think I'm doing well. This is with Statistics as one of my classes too. I'm happy with my decision to switch majors and feel like I finally found the perfect fit! Every paper I get back the teachers thank me for my honesty and I've really enjoyed writing a few of them. Although the topics are all intense, they are fascinating. I am glad I finally found my niche.

Spring Break

For the majority of Spring Break I worked, but I had some fun in there too :) On the first Saturday Ron and I went to see the local production of RENT, which was awesome and he dressed up in a tie and looked all handsome. No photo evidence though. Then hung out with Little Joe on Sunday :) Work, work, then Karaoke with Jennifer and company. It was a blast! I sang Alanis Morrisette, Tracy Chapman and a few others. Work. Made yummy green cupcakes and hung out with Ron Wednesday night. Then work and handed out 2 dozen cupcakes on Thursday. For dinner I went to my friend Karen's house and she made corned beef, sauerkraut and potatoes, it was delish! After an amazingly Irish dinner I headed to an Irish pub with my friend Matt. We had Guiness, listened to the live Irish band, watched the bagpipers walk by and pretty much just enjoyed the atmosphere for the evening :) Then back to work the next morning (bet you could have guessed that). Saturday the library was closed so my friend Lindsay and I hung out at the mall, took random photos with statues along the road and went to the park. Then back to work on Sunday and today. Over all it was a grand Spring Break!

Change.

So Thankful Mid-terms are over and it is now Spring Break! Part of a term paper I liked for Cultural Diversity and Human Rights :)

"If I could initiate one change in our community it would be equal rights for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered people. I feel it is often an overlooked minority because many believe it is a choice for a person to belong to this group. I believe one of the best ways to fight hate is on an individual basis. What I mean by that is when you believe in a cause you should fight for it, not expect others to take care of it. I really enjoyed the list of "Ways to Fight Hate" in our textbook and feel like it is the best example of how to fight discrimination I know of. First step is to “Act”. To me this works for every aspect of life. When you see an injustice do not ignore it, instead do something; speak up, speak out and just do something. If each of us fought the injustices we see in our own lives and tried to help, then I feel the world would be a little bit better. Second step they have is to “Unite”. Start a group, join a group, or find a way to unite people for a common goal. Third step is to “Support the victims”. This could be a part of step two in a support group or a rally. It could also be as simple as being there for someone to talk to about the discrimination they face in their daily lives. Big or small, I feel overall just knowing your beliefs and standing up for them is the best way to support a positive change."

Environmental Literature: Final

after this I won't talk anymore about nature, although probably still talk about my cats ;)
